Bryce Mayer, a native of Marthasville and graduate of St. Francis Borgia High School, was promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks – a Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros – on June 30.
Mayer made an impressive debut for the Hooks on July 5, starting on the mound in an 8-2 win over the San Antonio Missions. He allowed only two hits while striking out six in five innings.
Prior to his promotion, Mayer played for the Asheville Tourists and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers . He was selected by the Houston Astros in the 16th round (493rd pick) of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Since entering the minor leagues, Mayer has allowed 53 hits and struck out 91 in 70 innings pitched.
