Violet Marie Brunkhorst, of Marthasville, won the Missouri FFA Food Science and Technology Proficiency Award at the 88th Missouri FFA Convention.Brunkhorst, a senior at Warrenton High School, is the daughter of Kevin and Julie Brunkhorst. She is a member of the Warrenton FFA Chapter. Her chapter advisers are Dan Burkemper and Diane Miederhoff.Brunkhorst’s supervised agriculture experience program began when she started working at Trilogy Analytical Laboratory in 2014. When she first started at the lab, Brunkhorst’s duties included taking out the trash and sanitizing equipment. Her responsibilities now include treating purification columns, removing old samples, filling pipette tips as well as preparing laboratory baths and chemical solvents.As an FFA member, Brunkhorst has attended both national and state conventions. Brunkhorst has attended LEAD (Learn, Educate, Advance, Develop) Conference. She also has competed in the Missouri Pork Association Public Speaking Contest. In addition to FFA, Brunkhorst is a member of the history club and color guard. She also is a member of the United Church of Christ and enjoys helping at Vacation Bible School.After graduation, Brunkhorst plans to study math education at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout.Proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excel as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees or volunteers while gaining hands-on career experience.
