By Chris OrletManaging Editor Wright City has a new alderman as of this week.Mayor David Heiliger has appointed Forrest Bruce, 115 Trotters Creek Lane, to serve the remainder of Ward II Alderman Mike Smith’s term. Smith recently relocated to Memphis, Tenn. Smith’s term ends April 8.Heiliger said he appointed Bruce because he received the second most votes in last year’s municipal election. Last spring Bruce ran for Ward 2 alderman, coming in second to Jim Toothman.Among his qualifications, Bruce noted his business and management experience, having been a line supervisor at Chrysler’s vehicle assembly plant for 13 years. After retiring from Chrysler he went to work in a motorcycle shop in Washington. He now works part-time at Home Depot.Bruce, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is currently a member of the Wright City Planning and Zoning Commission. He said he intends to resign his seat on that board.“If you’re going to have a voice in the community, you’ve got to get involved,” Bruce said. “This is one way to get involved and I think I’ve got some things to offer.”Bruce, Bill Stinson and Sal Gertken have filed for the open seat in Ward II in the April municipal election creating a three-way race with three weeks remaining to file.Bruce said he believes the city needs to attract new businesses which will help generate additional tax revenue.Aldermen in Wright City serve two-year terms.Bruce Appointed to Replace Smith as Wright City Alderman
