Record Managing EditorBoonslick Regional Planning Commission is getting closer to filling its executive director vacancy.Truesdale Mayor Murray Bruer, who serves as chairman of BRPC’s executive board, updated members on the search at Monday’s quarterly meeting.He confirmed that an offer has been made to a candidate and he hopes to have an answer as soon as this week.“We have a candidate, but at this point, we cannot give any details until we work some things out,” Bruer said.BRPC has been without an executive director since Dec. 31 when Mike Sutherland accepted what he described as an unexpected job offer. He is now policy director with the Missouri Budget Project. Sutherland, a former Republican state representative and Warren County assessor, was with the agency since April.Sutherland replaced Steve Etcher, who resigned in June 2013 to accept a job as vice president of Community Edge, a local economic development consulting firm. Etcher had served in that capacity since 1992.Longtime BRPC employee Chuck Eichmeyer has been filling in as interim director.BRPC assists local governments with a variety of tasks including grant writing, community and economic development, transportation, hazard mitigation, solid waste management and workforce development. It serves Warren, Montgomery and Lincoln counties. BRPC is one of 19 regional planning commissions in the state.Bruer reported that interest in the position has been high. Around 70 resumes were received and four candidates were brought in for interviews with members of the executive board.Approximately 60 resumes were received during two processes when applications were being accepted between the time Etcher left and Sutherland was hired.Bruer commended the BRPC staff for their work and commitment while the search for a new executive director has been ongoing.“The staff is phenomenal,” Bruer remarked. “You couldn’t ask for better people. Chuck has been outstanding as interim director.”BRPC
