Bridge projects in Wright City begin next week

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is planning to begin bridge rehabilitation projects in Wright City starting Monday, Sept. 24.One lane of the Wildcat Drive bridge over Interstate 70 will be closed during night hours as crews replace expansion joints on the bridge. The lanes will be reopened during the day, according to MoDOT. The project is expected to take 45 days or less. There may be times when both lanes of the bridge are closed, which would be announced ahead of time, MoDOT said.Once work on the Wildcat Drive bridge is complete, crews will begin a similar project at the Highway F/Elm Street bridge over I-70. Expansion joint replacement there is also expected to finish  within 45 days, with one-lane closures overnight.

Lehman Construction of California, Mo., will complete these projects at a total cost of $385,855, MoDOT said.

“These bridges were beginning to see deterioration, so replacing the expansion joints will extend the life of the bridges” commented MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga.

Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling through the construction areas, obey all work zone signs, and put down cell phones to reduce distractions.
