Update 8:45 p.m.:The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed Highway 47 between Highway 94 and Highway D due to flooding. A detour route is available between Marthasville and Dutzow.Highway 47 south of Highway 94 remains open, including the bridge over the Missouri River.Rising waters from the river are expected to crest Wednesday afternoon and recede throughout the following week.
Update 6 p.m.:Marthasville Assistant Fire Chief Sean Johnson said there is no guarantee any section of Highway 47 will close, and that the situation will change depending on how much rain the area receives in the next couple days. That doesn't mean the road will definitely stay open, Johnson said, just that it isn't guaranteed to close, either. "This truly is a developing situation."Forecasts predict 1 to 3 inches of rain will fall on the area between Wednesday and Thursday.Johnson said that the fire department is staying in close contact with MoDOT staff in the area to assess flood conditions and maintain up-to-date information on the department's Facebook page,

Fire Chief Jeff Backhaus said the highway will remain open as long as possible, and that there is no set time for it to be closed.Backhaus stressed that the Highway 47 bridge to Washington will remain open even if a section of the highway further north closes. The bridge is not predicted to be affected by current water levels.
Original storyThe Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is expected to close Highway 47 north of Highway 94 Tuesday evening.Judy Wagner, MoDOT area engineer, said the road would be open south of the intersection with Highway 94.She said there are no plans to close the Highway 47 bridge over the Missouri River at Washington.Traffic will be detoured through Dutzow, according to the Marthasville Volunteer Fire Department.
