Bolm, Warrenton golf take top honors in tri-meet

Luke Bolm knows he left some shots out on the course Thursday.

That being the case, he still played well enough to earn the medalist honors as host Warrenton got the better of Wright City and Veritas Christian in a tri-meet at Warrenton Gold Course.

“I feel like I left some shots on the putting green with three lip-outs and a missed eagle putt on 16,” Bolm said. “My two drives on both par fives (hole Nos. 16 and 18) set me up in great places to score well on each of those holes. (Playing) consistent golf helped throughout the round.”

As it was, Bolm tallied a two-over par 37 to edge teammates, junior Gavin Thompson and senior Gavin Solari by one and two strokes, respectively.

As a team, Warrenton’s 157 easily outplayed Veritas’s 187 and Wright City’s 197.

Warrenton Coach Aaron Jinkerson said that Bolm’s work in the face of adversity shows just how far he’s come as a golfer.

“Luke has been progressing well this season, and his 37 to lead the way wasn't really surprising to me,” Jinkerson said. “He shot a 38 the day before in our match against Washington and I really noticed him dealing with adversity – (his) poor start and the weather conditions better.”

WRIGHT CITY BASEBALL EARNS TIGHT VICTORY – The Wildcats managed to squeeze by Hallsville by a 4-3 score at home on Thursday.

The decisive hit came in the fifth inning as a Kayden McCurdy single scored two.

Cameron Moyer earned the win, pitching six and one-third innings and allowing the three runs on six hits.

Easton Feise recorded the final two outs to earn the save for the Wildcats (11-8).

McCurdy and Leighton McDonald each drove in a pair of runs to help Wright City to victory.

The Wildcats return to the diamond at 4:30 on Tuesday, when the team hosts Bowling Green (4-8).

WARRENTON BASEBALL SMASHES VERITAS IN FIVE INNINGS – It was a good day for the Warriors.

Warrenton (10-7) won its fifth straight game in defeating Veritas at home. A seven-run fourth inning and three more in the fifth ended the game.

Easton Holt drove in five runs to pace the team’s attack.

Jaxson King earned the win for Warrenton.

Weather permitting, the Warriors will play Montgomery County (9-6) at 4:15 p.m. today in a non-conference game.

WARRENTON VOLLEYBALL SECURES THIRD STRAIGHT SWEEP – The Warriors played a trio of close games against visiting Fort Zumwalt South, but still prevailed 25-20, 25-17, 25-22.

Teegan Williams led the way with 12 kills while Lucas Payne added nine.

Kaleb Lauck owned three of the four blocks recorded against the Bulldogs.

Matthew Faubion also recorded 22 assists in the win for Warrenton (7-9-1).

The Warriors return home to host Chesterton (1-5-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Warrenton defeated the Saints in three games at the Lutheran St. Charles tournament on April 18.
