Boesel, Nelson honored by conference coaches

By Kory CarpenterRecord Sports EditorWarrenton volleyball players Morgan Boesel and Kayla Nelson were named to the All-GAC North Division postseason teams, Head Coach Kristen McDowell announced.Boesel, a senior, was a first-team selection after leading the Warriors with 102 kills despite missing 11 games due to injuries.She added 217 attacks, 25 aces, 15 blocks and 97 digs for a Warrenton team that finished the season 14-11-4.“She was one of our bigger hitters,” McDowell said. “She was always consistent in our time of need.”Boesel connected on 90.3 percent of her 124 serves during the season and was second on the team with 25 points.Nelson, a sophomore, was called up to the varsity level and earned second-team honors.Nelson was third on the team with 72 kills and 26 blocks, and finished the season with 165 attacks.“Kayla stepped up when we had injuries midway through the season,” McDowell said. “She improved so much through this season and toward the end she was one of our most consistent hitters.”McDowell said that while she expected big things from Nelson at some point during her high school career, the sophomore went “above and beyond” when her number was called.“She’s just an athlete,” McDowell said.
