Walter Kamphoefner, Ph.D., will speak at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 103 S. 2nd St., in Marthasville.His presentation is titled: “Arnold Krekel: A Republican for Immigrant Rights and Racial Equality.”Kamphoefner is a professor of history at Texas A&M University. He has published widely on the topics of German immigration and the Civil War in Missouri and elsewhere.He also grew up near Defiance and “put up hay in Daniel Boone’s backyard.” Kamphoefner earned his Ph.D. at University of Missouri at Columbia.The event is free and open to the public.
