Belle Starr presents the comedy “Harvey”

Belle Starr Theatre in downtown Warrenton will perform the imaginative play “Harvey” for a three-day showing Oct. 4-6.“Harvey” is a comedy featuring the character of Elwood Dowd, who insists on including his friend, the titular Harvey, in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings. The trouble is, Harvey is an imaginary, 6 1/2-foot-tall rabbit.To avoid future embarrassment for her family and her daughter, Veta decides to have Elwood committed to a sanitarium. But while explaining to the staff that Elwood’s hallucinations have begun to affect her as well, Veta herself gets committed and confusion ensues.“Harvey” is written by American playwright Mary Chase, who received a Pulitzer Prize for the work in 1945. It has been adapted for film and TV several times.Showings of “Harvey” are Oct. 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.
