A 500,000-square-foot beef processing facility proposed outside Foristell will receive a public hearing on March 24 in front of Warren County’s planning and zoning board. Members of the public will be able to share their comments or concerns about the proposed facility prior to a vote on whether plans for the facility can proceed.
American Foods Group (AFG) has proposed the $450 million beef processing plant to be located on Veterans Memorial Parkway, just outside Foristell’s western boundary line. The facility would employ about 1,300 people, according to AFG.
The Warren County zoning code requires any commercial slaughterhouse processing more than 1,000 head of livestock per year to receive a conditional use permit, which is a type of permitting that allows the government to establish restrictions aimed at preventing nuisances. Public hearings are a time for nearby residents to express any concerns that may require a special restriction to address.
The hearing will take place at 6 p.m. March 24 in the lower level of the Warren County Administration Building, 101 Mockingbird Lane, Warrenton. Those who wish to speak during the hearing will be asked to notify county staff members at the hearing before the discussion begins.
If approved, AFG will become one of the largest employers in Warren County. Economic development officials hope the plant will offer county residents high-paying jobs closer to home, as well as spur additional surrounding development. AFG hopes to have the facility constructed by 2024.
