The Missouri Department of Transportation is warning motorists to be prepared for delays when driving on Highway 47 near the Missouri River bridge in southern Warren County. There are times when traffic will be stopped in the vicinity of the bridge where clearing work is underway at the site for a new bridge. For the next several weeks, trucks will be delivering materials to the site, a MoDOT spokesman said. This will require crews to temporarily stop traffic on Route 47 to allow trucks to pull on and off the road.Deliveries will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m Monday through Friday, according to MoDOT.At this time, traffic will be stopped only a few minutes at a time whenever a truck is entering or leaving the highway, according to the spokesperson.Alberici Constructors Inc. is the general contractor on the $63 million bridge project.South SideOn the Franklin County side of the river, work officially started Monday with the closing of the eastern end of Washington’s Rotary Riverfront Trail. The popular walking/biking path will remained closed until 2019 under an easement agreement between Alberici and the city.Fencing and a gate were put up near the parking lot at the entrance of the trail near Kingsland Drive. Fencing also was added on the western portion near the south pier of the bridge. The fencing prevents pedestrians and bike riders from accessing the trail until the construction of the new Highway 47 bridge is complete. At this point, the trail is officially turned over to MoDOT and Alberici.Washington reached a final easement agreement with MoDOT in March that allowed the contractor to use part of the riverfront trail during construction. The city will receive $131,900 for the easement.Any damage done to the trail during the construction project will have to be fixed by Alberici. While the east end is closed, the west entrance near Downtown Washington will remain open. People can walk down the trail to that point and watch the construction.Missouri River Bridge
