BOYS BASKETBALL
Warrenton
The Warrenton boys basketball team defeated St. Clair 65-41 on Jan. 3. The Warriors improved to 5-2 on the season. Junior Eli Peth led Warrenton in scoring with 13 points, followed by Deadrick Forrest with 12. Brodey Meier and Brandon Johnson recorded 11 apiece.
In addition, the Warriors’ first GAC North conference matchup against St. Charles scheduled to play on Jan. 6 was canceled due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Feb. 12. Warrenton will play next at St. Charles West on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
Liberty Christian
The Liberty Christian boys basketball won their MAC conference game against Eagle Ridge 66-53 on Jan. 3. The Eagles remain third in their conference with a 5-1 record. Phoenix Obermann recorded 20 points, while Willy Mueller had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Tommy Meyer tallied three blocks as well.
The next day, Liberty Christian fell to the St. Louis Christian Knights 79-34 in their first game of the Battle of Bourbon. The Eagles were down at the end of each quarter (26-7, 48-15, 68-32) and now hold a 9-5 overall record. Meyer led the Eagles with 10 points and five rebounds, while Obermann recorded nine points and four rebounds. Liberty Christian will play next on Jan. 10 in round three of the Battle of Bourbon.
Wright City
The Wright City boys basketball team was scheduled to play Clopton in the Clopton Hawk Invitational on Jan. 8. This tournament has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Warrenton
The Warrenton girls basketball team fell to Hermann 63-38 on Jan. 4. The Warriors’ record is now 1-6 on the season. Sophia Benke led the Warriors with 10 points, while Makayla Witthaus recorded nine. Nyasia Love tallied eight points as well. Freshman Claire Goldsmith had three steals, and Witthaus grabbed eight rebounds. Warrenton’s game against Fort Zumwalt East on Jan. 7 was canceled due to inclement weather, but they will play again at St. Charles West on Jan. 10 at 5:45 p.m.
Liberty Christian
The Liberty Christian girls basketball team dropped their MAC conference game 40-19 against Eagle Ridge on Jan. 4. The Eagles played without three of their starters-- Lauren Moss, Raelee Bruno and Trina Scheltens. First-year basketball player Allie Brazier recorded eight steals and four points. Eighth grader Elsie Kimmel tallied six points and five rebounds. Freshmen Emma Roden had six points and deflected five passes. The Eagles will play next in
the Battle of Bourbon on Jan. 9. Their opponent is to be determined.
Wright City
The Wright City girls Varsity Tournament has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
