Bank Robbery Suspect Remains at Large

Police are continuing to search for a man who robbed the Jonesburg State Bank branch in Jonesburg Monday afternoon. The robbery occurred at approximately 3 p.m. The suspect showed a note to a bank teller then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. Bronto, the Warren County Sheriff's Department K-9 dog, was able to track a scent approximately a quarter-mile east of the bank until losing the scent. Jonesburg Police Chief JD Sinclair said it's unknown if the suspect got inside a car or went elsewhere. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 18 to 25 years old and 5-foot-10 to 6-foot tall. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt, white tennis shoes and large black sunglasses. He also had a spike-like earring in his left ear. Sinclair said the suspect displayed a gun hidden near his belt to the teller. No one was injured in the robbery. The bank is located at 110 First St. Jonesburg State Bank in Montgomery County. The bank also has a branch in Warrenton. Sinclair hopes the public can assist law enforcement in identifying the suspect. A photo taken from bank surveillance camera has been released. "We hope people see the news and that they saw something that didn't click (Monday afternoon)," Sinclair said. "Maybe it will click now. Maybe they saw this guy running. Maybe (leads) will start coming in." Anyone with information on the bank robbery should contact the Jonesburg Police Department at 636-488-5200 or the FBI at 314-589-2718. Tips can remain anonymous. "We will follow up on anything we can and see where it takes us and see if it takes us in the right direction," Sinclair said. The bank robbery has caused some concerns for residents who live in the town. "Things like this never used to happen in this town," said one resident who lives near the bank. "That is why we like it so much here." Sinclair said it was too early to speculate whether or not the suspect was from out of the area. "We can only assume he's not local but then again, until we get a better quality picture, we don't know for sure," he said. This is the second bank robbery to have occurred in the area this year. In May, the American Bank branch in Warrenton was robbed by a St. Louis man who was arrested six days following the holdup. The armed suspect was accused of stealing approximately $25,000.
