Warrenton police have arrested a man they say robbed the US Bank in Warrenton last year.

Joseph L. Lumetta, 33, of Warrenton, has been charged with felony stealing for taking $2,060 in the April 22, 2016, robbery.

The day of the theft, around 11:15 a.m., Lumetta allegedly entered the bank at 502 E. Veterans Memorial Parkway, jumped over the counter and demanded money from an employee, according to investigators. He did not show a gun and no injuries were reported.

At the time, surveillance footage and witnesses at the bank described an unknown white male, 6 feet tall and thin, wearing a black mask and a green hooded sweatshirt.

New details in the case were recently made available by law enforcement seeking a warrant for Lumetta’s arrest.

On the day of the theft, a police K-9 unit tracked the suspect from the bank south toward Dryden Street, according to police. The dog located a backpack that contained clothing, including a green hooded sweatshirt and a gray and black stocking cap, along with $2,060 in cash.

DNA evidence was collected from the cap, and was matched to Lumetta’s DNA profile in a national database, according to police. Lumetta has a previous felony assault conviction in Warren County from 2003.

According to authorities, Lumetta also matches the physical description of the suspect from the bank theft and has an address on Dryden Street, which is consistent with the direction of travel of the suspect when he left the US Bank.

The Class D felony that Lumetta is now charged with has a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, if he is convicted. Lumetta is free on bail after posting a $5,000 surety bond. He had an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 27 at the Warren County Courthouse.
