Bailey speaks at Memorial Day service

The memorial flags were flying at the Daniel Boone Post 180 VFW near Marthasville Monday, May 28, commemorating the annual Memorial Day Service.Colors were presented by the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Scouts of Troop 359 as the ceremony began.Larry Brewe of VFW Post 180 said the service took place as a “symbol of respect and gratitude.”“It’s a formal recognition of those who have gone before us,” he said.Quoting Gen. George Patton, Brewe added, “thank God that such men lived.”Guest speaker for the service was Warren County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Bailey. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 2004.“There is a long line of heroes from the inception of our country to the war on terror,” said Bailey. “Words seem inadequate.”Bailey deployed to Iraq, serving as a scout platoon leader. He was responsible for six Bradley fighting vehicles and 30 soldiers, conducting border security and routine patrols between Iraq and Syria. His unit was selected to participate in a major offensive operation in Tal Afar, Iraq, in 2005.During his second deployment, he was promoted to captain and served 15 months in the Tigris River Valley.After transitioning out of the military, he received his law degree at the University of Missouri at Columbia and joined the prosecuting attorney’s office in 2014.Names of the fallen from Southern Warren County were read by area veterans, followed by a gun salute by local veterans and the playing of taps by Camillo Hernandez.

Andrew Bailey, Warren County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and veteran was the guest speaker during the Memorial Day Service held at the Daniel Boone Post 180 at Marthasville. Bailey served in the U.S. Army.
