Auto Fest Looks to Build on Past Years

In each of its first three years, the Warrenton Auto Fest has grown and evolved and this year’s festival looks to be even bigger and better. The free event is sponsored by the city of Warrenton and is scheduled for this Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Khoury Park. Event organizer Jenny Hoffmann said in the past, her goal was to have 150 vehicles on display. This year, she is increasing that total. “My goal is to have 200 vehicles,” she said. “It’s a nice festival atmosphere with a great park setting for cars.” Hoffmann said the fact that the event is free is its best selling point. “It’s a festival atmosphere and streets full of impressive show vehicles and live entertainment with a park setting seems to be irresistible,” she said. “There’s an opportunity for people to enjoy this event at no cost.” From 8 a.m.-noon, Hoffmann said a DJ and karaoke service will be on hand. From 8 a.m.-5 p.m., food and merchandise vendors will be on site and visitors will also be able to bring a cooler. At noon, St. Louis based band SH-BOOM will kick off four hours of music to go along with the auto show. Hoffmann said cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs and rat rods will all be on display. “The addition of SH-BOOM is increasing numbers,” said Hoffmann. “There’s a high value to the vehicles. The numbers and quality of vehicles that we have pulled has become more impressive over the years.” Representatives from Mechanical Motion will be judging 45 categories and awarding plaques to top-three finishers in each class. Nine specialty awards will also be awarded. A nostalgia photo with an old-time gas station will be available for auto show registrants. The photos will be posted on www.warrenton-mo.org for public view and download. This year, however, will not see a poker run or 50-mile ride. “We wanted to focus on the auto show as the main part,” Hoffmann said. Other sponsors for this year’s event are Gastorf-Schrumpf Motors, Warrenton Tire and Muffler, NAPA Auto and Truck Parts, Specialty Auto Body, May Service, Inc., and Dave’s Auto Parts.
