Wright City senior Devon Holmes is an all-state football player and starter on the Wildcat basketball team, all while making time to play in the Wright City band, as well.

He led the Wildcat football program in a number of offensive categories last fall, and recently signed a letter of intent to play football at Missouri Western University next season.

He recently spoke with The Record after being named the February Athlete of the Month.

What’s one thing you’ll miss about high school? “One thing I’ll miss about high school is definitely the game atmosphere; the students going crazy after we scored was just too hype.”  

What is something people might not know about you? “Something people don’t know about me is I love math. Other than that, I’m an open book.”

What do you want to major in in college? “I’m majoring in construction engineering, which is like architecture. I feel like that’s good money for someone with my skill level at math.”

Favorite athlete: “Lebron James. I was just looking at a picture of him smiling and just thought of his childhood and how he’s come up from a really rough place, and now he’s living in a multimillion dollar house with his high school sweetheart, blessed with three children.”

Dream job: “Architect.”

Biggest fear: “Letting people down.”

Favorite movie: “ ‘Kingsman.’ I can recite every word.”

Where is one place you’d like to visit? “Bora Bora.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? “Before games I shoot one shot, and I say ‘If I make it, then we win, if I miss we lose.’ It works about 80/20.”
