While the season is still young, Warrenton junior Kathryn McChristy has quickly proven her dominance on the mound. The Warriors’ starting hurler has gone 4-2 through six starts on the mound, recording a 2.55 ERA during that period. Through 33 innings pitched, she has allowed 29 hits and 12 earned runs.

At the plate, McChristy is batting .350 with seven hits and three RBIs.

Coming from a large family with one brother and three sisters, McChristy has long committed her efforts toward excelling at softball, beginning with tee ball. She aspires to play at the college level. The recruiting process recently began on Sept. 1, and McChristy says she is leaving her options open.

Outside of sports, she is involved in student council.

Q: What do you enjoy most about softball?

“I really enjoy pitching. That’s what got me to practice a lot more and really start committing to get better.”

Q: What are your strengths as a pitcher?

“This year I really worked on my change-up over the summer. My rise and curve balls have been a lot more accurate, and I’ve had a lot fewer walks this year, with only four.”

Q: What are the team goals for this fall?

“We have this motto, ‘right here, right now.’ As long as we’re able to play, just give it our all. We don’t know what the season is going to turn into, so we’re making the best of what we do have. I think we’re going to have a really good season. We’ve been playing a lot of tough teams and done pretty well against them. I think when we play our regular season we should do pretty well.”

Q: What are your personal goals for the season?

“To keep my ERA and walk count down.”

Q: What’s your favorite memory from softball?

“The tournaments with long nights and early mornings. Just the experience of it all. I can’t think of one specific thing. Memories you don’t think of until they come up in conversation.”

Q: How did COVID impact your offseason routine?

“My coach was able to get us into a lot of tournaments, even if they were last minute. We went to Georgia with one day advance notice. We did pretty well in that tournament. There were a lot of last-minute opportunities.”

Q: What was a positive takeaway from COVID disruption?

“You kind of realize how much the game means to you when all the sudden it could be taken away. I think that’s a big lesson to learn. We aren’t going to be able to play forever.”

Q: Who is a teacher or coach who’s made an impact on you?

“Randi Davis, my pitching coach, because she brought my game to the next level. If I didn’t have her, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. All the coaches have helped me improve along the way.”

Q: Who’s had the greatest overall influence on your life?

“Probably my dad. He really pushes me to be my best and has helped me through everything.”

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve received?

“To relax. I went through this time where everything felt like a huge deal. My pitching coach helped me to relax. It was what I needed.”

Q: What are your favorite subjects?

“I really like human biology. I’m taking it for dual credit through Missouri Baptist.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you want to go?

“I think it’d be fun to go to Italy.”
