By Jeremy RobertsonRecord Staff WriterStevye Hartwig opened Elite Body Spa in April of this year, but it is far from her first time working as a masseuse.“I taught for just under four years,” she says.Before that, she worked for six years at massage clinics and chiropractic offices in the St. Louis area, bringing her total experience to 10 years.“I like to find out what’s going on with the client,” she says, regarding her philosophy of personalized massage.When Hartwig decided to open her own business, she returned to Warren County, where she grew up. Her business is located at 100 W. 2nd St. North, Suite A, in Wright City.She has two tanning beds set up and runs daily specials to keep her regular customers coming back and to drive new traffic through the door.“I try to make it affordable, friendly, comfortable,” says Hartwig.Along with the massage, Elite Body Spa offers tanning, body scrubs and wraps, waxes, and tanning products.Hartwig is looking forward to next year. Next summer, she plans to offer a massage school for students who don’t want to travel quite so far.“The nearest school is across the river,” she says.“Students would be able to go through our program … take a test and get licensed,” said Hartwig. She says it is more like a mentoring program than what is offered at other schools in the area.Hartwig also is looking forward to the options a school would create for her clients.“It would allow me to have a student clinic,” she said. She would be able to offer discounted rates on student massages, which might eliminate the price barrier for many potential clients.Elite Body Spa is offering a $50 introductory rate for new massage clients.
