The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office and local authorities are investigating an arson at a home in Warrenton last week.Neighbors to the home on the 300 block of McKinley Avenue reported the smell of smoke before dawn May 16, according to Warrenton Fire Chief Mike Owenby. The resident was not home when firefighters responded just before 5 a.m., he said. There was smoke coming from the garage, which was securely closed when firefighters arrived, Owenby said. When they entered, they found a smoldering pile of clothing that the chief said had intentionally been set on fire.“It was definitely a set fire. There was nothing in the area that would cause that fire to start,” Owenby confirmed. The fire did not cause much damage to the surrounding structure, he added. He said the Missouri Division of Fire Safety is working with the Warrenton Police Department to investigate the crime. The state has a $5,000 reward in place for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the arson. To report any information, call the state’s arson hotline at 1-800-39-ARSON (1-800-392-7766).Arson
