April Athlete of the Month: Warrenton's Eli Ecton

Warrenton pitcher Eli Ecton has helped the Warriors to a 9-3 record heading into Friday’s home game against Quincy Notre Dame.

The senior hurler is second on the team in innings pitched (18), earned-run average (2.72) and wins (two), but he is quick to point to his team’s impressive record midway through the season. 

“My teammates are a huge part of my success,” he said.

At the plate, he has a .297 batting average with five RBIs.

Ecton recently sat down with The Record after being named the April Athlete of the Month.

What will you miss most about high school? “I think I’ll really miss the people. Having the teammates split up after four years will be weird.”

What are your plans after high school? “I plan on playing baseball at Central Methodist and studying athletic training.”

Do you have any superstitions? “If I’m on a hot streak, I’ll kiss my bat, warm it up in between my arms and then kiss it again.”

Favorite athlete: “(Washington Nationals outfielder) Bryce Harper. I like the way he carries himself.”

Biggest fear: “Giving up the winning run on the mound.”

Dream job:

“It’s still too early to tell.”

Favorite movie: “ ‘Forest Gump.’ ” 

What is one thing people might not know about you?

“I’m a pretty big nerd and I’ve been into video games my whole life.”

Favorite video game: “ ‘Zelda.’ ” 

Favorite meal: “Chicken Alfredo.”

media app: “Snapchat.”

Where is one place you’d like to visit? “Brazil. It seems pretty nice down there.”
