The nominees are in and now it’s time to vote.First State Community Bank, in partnership with the Warren County Record, is holding its annual Community KickStart contest to reward area nonprofit organizations and raise awareness about their good work.Some of the nominees are listed below and more will be featured in next week’s Warren County Record.To vote, clients, co-workers, volunteers and friends of these organizations should come to First Community Bank branches in Warrenton or Wright City until Oct. 31 to cast a paper ballot or visit www.Fscb.com/kickstart or www.warrencountyrecord.com.Each person who votes is entered into a drawing to win an iPad Mini.The final four nominees will be announced Nov. 3. The contest winner and iPad winner will be announced Nov. 10. Contestants must be present to win.The top prize winner will be recognized at the bank Nov. 17.The top winner will receive a $2,500 award, 20 volunteer hours from First State Community Bank employees and coverage in the The Record.Last year’s winner was Youth in Need, featured in this week’s issue of the Warren County Record, and here are some of this year’s nominees:Jordan’s Place Teen Center is a community gathering facility providing positive alternative activities for youth. Its mission is to provide a safe place for youth to socialize in a supervised environments, and meet other needs.The facility offers billiards, pingpong, foosball, a cafe, lounge, study area, access to group outings and a clothing pantry. Membership is free and funding is provided by donations and grants.Jordan’s Place needs funding to cover rent and maintenance, purchase wireless cameras, computers for the study room and a pull-down screen and microphone for movies and presentations.Patriot Packaging Organization comes together once a month to pack bags for servicemen and -women everywhere. All items are donated and include just about everything.The organization depends on donated items to package and send. A monetary award would be used to purchase items to ensure that soldiers have what they need.Warren County Health Partnership supports programs and events which aim to improve Warren County’s overall health. The organization helps the Community Fitness Center, community gardens, school gardens and local emergency food agency gardens.It also provides resources to “Beat the Heat” for air-conditioning assistance and the new “Care Trak” program, which allows first responders to locate people with dementia, Alzheimer’s, autism or other medical conditions who go missing. Funds it receives from this award would help support these programs and continue to improve the well-being of Warren County residents.Warren County Sheltered Workshop provides distinguished employment for about 80 individuals with disabilities. Employees have a safe place to work and socialize with peers. They become taxpaying citizens and gain self-respect, confidence and responsibility while working with staff and fellow employees.The workshop needs funding to offer employees a “Safety and Resource Center” to include three stations, each equipped with a 40-inch TV, computer with headphones, desk and chair, along with a shared printer. Employees would have access to the center for safety training, state and community resources as well as competitive job opportunities.Wright City Cub Scouts is part of the scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America. Its mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Any funds provided would go to meet program expenses.By providing to the program, the Boy Scouts provide services to the community including Scouting for Food and community clean ups.Wright City R-II School District Foundation receives and administers funds for educational and enrichment programs for students. At the beginning of the 2016-17 year, the foundation granted over $6,000 to programs ranging from kindergarten, first grade reading, music keyboards, Academy self-publishing, physics electricity unit supplies and insurance for chrome books for students who financially are unable to pay.Money obtained from this First State Community Bank program will go directly to our deserving students to help them “KickStart” their lives and learning to higher levels of success.More nominees will be featured in the next issue. Community KickStart
