Relay For Life is an event for people who have had cancer or have loved someone with cancer.Relay For Life of Warren County will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 11 p.m. at Black Hawk Middle School, 302 Kuhl Ave. in Warrenton. The event celebrates life and remembers those who have lost the battle. It also raises money for the American Cancer Society in its mission to raise awareness and find a cure.“The event is about celebrating life, fighting back and remembering,” said Carie Biggs, a committee member for Relay For Life of Warren County. So far, 135 people on 19 teams have signed on and raised more than $26,000. There is room for more individuals, more teams and more donations. The event’s goal is 25 teams and $45,000.The evening will offer raffles, auctions and goodies for sale; bubble soccer, a dunking booth, and live music by the Captain Courageous band from 3-5 p.m.The opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m. The survivors lap is at 6:30 p.m., and the caregivers lap, for those who cared for a loved one with cancer, is at 6:35 p.m.The luminaria ceremony, to remember those who lost their cancer battle, will take place at 8:30 p.m. and closing ceremonies are at 11 p.m.Biggs and many Relay For Life regulars go each year because they were touched by cancer, but all are welcome.“I’ve had multiple people in my family who’ve had cancer,” said Biggs, who was 16 when her dad, at the age of 34, died from cancer.“You go to these Relays and you hear the stories. People share their stories,” she said. “But Relay For Life is a community event. It’s fun. There are things for the kids. It raises awareness and brings the community together.”This year’s top sponsors include Elite Tool in Moscow Mills, CertainTeed, Loving Hands Hospice and the Warrenton Elks Lodge. The theme is “Get Your Game On!”Teams can sign up online at www.relayforlife.org/warrencom.For more information visit www.relayforlife.org/warrencomo or contact Carie Biggs, volunteer, at cariebiggs@gmail.com or 636-485-2391 or Kanna Rook, ACS staff partner, at kanna.rook@cancer.org or 636-866-4884.Relay for Life
