America’s Heartland Packing begins operations in Warren County

The America’s Heartland Packing beef harvest facility officially began operations in Warren County on April 10.

The $800 million plant built by American Food Groups will be their largest beef processing facility in the country at over 1 million square feet, or 19 acres, under one roof.

The plant is located on Veterans Memorial Parkway, just east of Wright City.

Jennifer Dibbern, executive vice president of marketing and corporate communications with AFG, said they are scaling up operations at the plant and will have more information to release as work gets underway.

“We’re just getting up and operational,” said Dibbern. “That’s what we’re concentrating on right now.”

According to a press release from AFG, once at full production the plant will employ 1,300 people and process 2,400 head of cattle per day.

They stated in the press release that as of February they had already hired 400 employees to date. They stated the majority of those are skilled hires and local residents.

AFG has been hosting hiring events at city hall in Wright City as well for applicants.

They also funded a new wastewater treatment plant in Wright City at a cost of $140 million, according to the press release, to help accommodate the demands of the plant with the Public Water Supply District No. 2.

That plant has increased the capacity of Wright City’s previous lagoon system from 500,000 to 3.5 million gallons per day, according to the press release.

“It’s going to take some time to get everything up and running and to get everyone trained, it’s a big plant,” said Dibbern.
