American Legion Post 122 is closing its hall in Warrenton. After Feb. 10, the Post will no longer operate its hall on Highway W, otherwise known as the Beachhead Bar, an employee confirmed.A statement released by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 122 via the organization’s Facebook page indicated that financial issues were in part responsible for the building’s closure.Larry Schulze, Post 122’s current commander, had not returned calls asking for comment by press time. Messages for the manager of the Beachhead Bar also went unreturned. The future of the Warrenton American Legion charter is unknown. It is possible American Legion members could meet at a different location and continue to hold fundraisers and host community events.Rick Mantione, president of the Warren County Tribute to Veterans Memorial organization, said it would be a shame if the American Legion couldn’t continue to be a part of the community.“The veterans community is small in numbers, and even though we belong to different organizations, we’re all brothers,” Mantione said. The American Legion and its affiliates helped raise thousands of dollars for the planned Tribute to Veterans Memorial.American Legion
