Ambulance district’s Explorer program approved for third year

Warren County Ambulance District officials and staff are pleased to announce the approval of their Explorer program renewal with the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Learning for Life: Exploring.The Explorer program is a worksite-based program designed to enhance career awareness and leadership. Local community organizations such as the ambulance district organize an Exploring post by matching their resources to the interests of the youth. Youth attend meetings, training sessions, elect officers, and participate in interactive, career-based activities.Warren County is the first county in the state to have an Explorer group in all three areas of emergency response, including fire and law enforcement.Program advisers and instructors are all Warren County Ambulance District employees who volunteer their time to instruct students, and participate in the program’s fundraising events.In the first two years of the program, nine students have graduated as certified Emergency Medical Responders with skill objectives outlined by the American Safety & Health Institute. To be certified, students are required to complete 48 hours of classroom instruction and hands-on training, as well as emergency call ride-alongs, and 24 hours of mandatory community service.The Explorer’s Post 1599 has provided community service to Back Stoppers, Pink Heals Tour, Festival of Fun, Warren County Fair, Strassenbash festival, Relay for Life and also maintain a section of Highway 47 in through the Adopt-A-Highway program.The program accepts high school students in Warren County who are 14 years of age at the beginning of the school year. Interested participants are invited to an open house on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Warren County Ambulance base.
