Mr. Alvin John Kosters of Warrenton passed away at his home Friday, February 25, 2022. He was born January 16, 1932, in Doon, IA, to the late Henry and Kate (Nee: Kruizenga) Kosters. He had reached the age of 90 years.

Al grew up on the family farm in Iowa, and being the oldest boy, he helped keep the farm running. He enjoyed working with all the farm animals and said a “good horse and good dog made the job easier.” He then joined the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean War. While serving in the army, Al was married to Frances (Nee: Vanmeeteren) for 24 years, and they had five sons together. Al later married Lorene Joyce Eberhart (Nee: Densmore) on November 6, 1977, in St. Charles, MO. They were married for 44 years and had one daughter together, and Al helped raise Lorene’s daughter and two sons from a previous marriage. Besides serving in the military, Al also worked in a meat-packing house, served as a police officer, was a salesman for Electrolux and Fuller Brush, drove for OATS transportation, and eventually retired from Monsanto/MEMC after working there for 29 years.

Al and Lorene loved to travel and visited all 50 states. They took their RV to all the lower 48 states. An avid "car guy," Al owned more than 70 cars in his lifetime and could name every one of them. He loved his Dodge pickup but was known as a Ford guy, often driving his Mustang convertible. Al enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but he also had indoor hobbies such as baking, keeping up on current events, and rewatching historical military shows and the Three Stooges. Al always had a story to tell and never knew a stranger. Everyone around town knew him as "Cowboy," always wearing his cowboy boots and hat. He and his kind words will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kate; many aunts and uncles; son, Mikel Kosters; grandson, Cory Kosters; brother, Kenneth Kosters; brothers-in-law William Daniels and Marvin Moret; and niece, Danielle Kosters. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorene; children, Marlon Kosters (Senta), Craig Kosters (Holly), Darwin Kosters (Tami), Brian Kosters (Bernada), Babette Struttmann (Rick), Dr. Gregory Eberhart (Louise), Bruce Eberhart, Heather Coleman (Brad); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Wineva Moret, Hendrine Daniels, and Dennis Kosters; many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
