By Derrick ForsytheRecord Features EditorA dog left at an abandoned property in Warren County has been given a new lease on life thanks to the generosity of several individuals.Missouri Bank President Ed Buscher says he found the dog when visiting a foreclosed property that had been vacant for about two weeks.“Everything was gone, but here’s the dog left in a fenced-in area,” said Buscher. “It pulled on our heartstrings.”So Buscher contacted local animal enthusiast Mary Raterman about finding a new home for the pitbull. After numerous phone calls, Raterman found a shelter in Crestwood that was willing to take the dog. Volunteers drove from South County on Friday to pick up the dog, which has since been renamed Eddie B., after Buscher.“His new life has started,” said Raterman. “It was an exciting day for him.”Eddie B. was taken to the Warrenton Vet Clinic, where he was examined and found to be in relatively good health.“The neighbors had been feeding him, and he had shelter, so that was good,” said Raterman.Buscher says the bank has vowed to pick up any expenses related to finding the dog a new home.“It seemed like the right thing to do,” said Buscher. “He’ll make somebody a nice dog.”Volunteer Lynn Teller says the dog was very friendly but reluctant to leave his surroundings initially.“He didn’t meet a stranger the day we rescued him,” said Teller. “He came up and kissed everyone. We were extremely lucky that he had a good temperament.”Teller is part of a group in Crestwood called FOACAR (Friends of Animal Control and Rescue), who stepped up to keep the animal shelter open after the city discontinued its paid animal control position. She says the shelter, which has only housed cats over the past several months, just recently received approval to host dogs.“They had just received their license this week, and they have room for three dogs,” said Teller.Turns out, Eddie B. will be the first.“Everything fell into place perfectly,” said Teller. “Eddie turned out to be a super-sweet dog.”To find out more about the shelter or adopting Eddie B., visit foacar.org or call Chrissie Risner at 314-365-1850 or Mary Balles at 314-607-1884.
