Back in the summer of ’69, the kids had peace, love and music at Woodstock. In 2017, family dogs have Woofstock in Wright City.Woofstock is a groovy affair for dogs and their humans. Organizers, board members of Concerned Citizens for Animal Care (CCAC) call it “a day of peace, love and paws.”The organization is in the middle of its shelter challenge, a fundraiser to build an animals shelter for stray and unwanted animals in Warren County.Woofstock will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at Diekroeger Park in Wright City.It is a family event co-hosted by the Wright City High School Superintendent’s Council where pet owners can receive a tie-dyed T-shirts for themselves and matching bandanas for their Fidos. The event is to raise awareness and funds for the Warren County’s most vulnerable animals.“Without an animal shelter our county has many rescue organizations doing great work, of which most people are unaware,” said Wanda Thomas, CCAC board member. “Woofstock will showcase these rescue groups to bring awareness of their efforts and help toward getting them a shelter to work with.”The group also wanted a signature event, something they could be known for throughout the community, and they knew it needed to be big.“We started brainstorming ideas and we started adding and adding and adding,” said CCAC board member Tracy Sator. “We wanted the groups — PALS, AWA — to bring adoptable dogs to find them forever homes.”The group worked with the Wright City Superintendant’s Council because that group wanted to do an animal-related project. Sator said they will be offering dog baths.“The community has really gotten behind this,” she said, and she is already hearing from people who want to attend. “Outdoors, in the park with your dog with music and food and activities, it appeals to everyone.”There is still time for people to sign up as volunteers or to register as a vendor. Vendors are selling clothing, pet products, jewelry and other items. Anyone interested in being a vendor or volunteer should contact woofstock@ccacwc.com.People can just show up for most of the day’s activities, but registration is required for the mutt strutt, which starts at 10:30 a.m. the cost is $25 until July 19 and $30 thereafter.“The (1 mile) mutt strutt is the kick off for the day,” said Sator. “With the mutt strutt, you get a T-shirt and a matching bandana for your dog. There will be treats along the way.”Here are more events: product vendors, music, food, dog obedience, agility and search and rescue demonstrations; and activities for children; a dog wash, “pet-i-cure,” photo booth and an opportunity to have artist Michelle Streiff paint a pet on a T-shirt.Sator said they will have contests, adoptable pets, raffles and a silent auction. For the silent auction, Sator said, “You don’t have to be there to bid or win. You can participate with your cellphone via text. You can be in a different state.”To bid by text, Sator said participants should go to the CCAC website and find the auction link.Admission to Woofstock is free. Donations to the CCAC shelter challenge are welcome. Sator said because Woofstock is a family event, no alcoholic beverages are allowed. Dogs should be on leashes, but not the retractable style. Diekroeger Park is located off of the West South Service Road between Exit 199 and Exit 200 of Interstate 70.For more information and a complete lineup of events, go to www.ccacwc.com or find the group on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CCACWC.Woofstock
