After being sworn in as governor Monday, Eric Greitens issued an executive order that sent a message that he is serious about making changes in state government. He issued an order that bans executive branch employees from accepting lobbyist gifts and prohibits the governor’s office staff from lobbying his office if they later leave their jobs.In his address, he said, “The people have spoken and a new direction has been decided.”He promised many changes during his campaign and it will be interesting to see what comes next. His Monday order does not pertain to many state workers since the governor’s staff is normally rather small in number. There’s youth in the governor’s staff and in other state officials. Gov. Greitens is 42. One of his chief advisers is only 21 years old. Lt. Gov. Mike Parson, a former sheriff, is the veteran among the new state officials sworn in Monday. He is 61 years old. Attorney General Josh Hawley is 37, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is 43 and Treasurer Eric Schmitt is 41.It’s a Republican show in Jefferson City with a Republican governor, most top officials of the same party and the General Assembly controlled by the GOP.The Republicans have the opportunity to bring about many changes.
