By Tim Schmidt Record Managing Editor With a month remaining until the Warren County Fair, organizers are finalizing this year’s lineup. The Fair opens Tuesday, July 1, and ends Saturday, July 5, at the Warren County Fairgrounds, located on North Highway 47 in Warrenton. This year’s theme is “Country Pride, Countywide.” President Paul Owenby acknowledges the Fair Association continues to face financial difficulties, but the group is focused on providing an entertaining week for this year’s crowd. “Truth is, (the Fair) will continue to go on with hard work,” Owenby said. The Fair will kick off with a parade Sunday, June 29, though a time has yet to be set, Owenby said. Board members are considering starting the parade in the early evening so participants and attendees can enjoy cooler temperatures. The parade route is expected to be the same, starting at Black Hawk Middle School and ending at Warrenton High School. The nightly featured entertainment will lead off with the queen pageant on Tuesday night. Local Christian rock music will be played on the main stage Wednesday. The livestock auction, truck and tractor pull and BMX races will be held Thursday. On Friday, the featured entertainment will be the demolition derby and rodeo. The Friday lineup also includes the return of a fireworks show at dark following a one-year hiatus. Among the events scheduled for Saturday are a baby contest, kids’ games, mud run and greased pig scramble. Season passes can be purchased for $35 and are available at local banks or from local 4-H groups. The passes are $10 less than last year. Once again, carnival rides are included in the paid admission. The fee for the opening day is $5 and increases to $10 on Wednesday. Admission is $15 Thursday through Saturday. The Fair is still seeking commercial exhibitors. The booth fee is $75, with electric an additional $25. Exhibitors can sign up by contacting Owenby at 636-679-0676 or Dennis Nelson at 636-357-2349. Owenby said holding more events at the fairgrounds throughout the year will help keep the Fair going. A demo derby was held this past Saturday and the Warrenton Chamber of Commerce’s Festival of Fun will be held this weekend. Small livestock shows will be held throughout the year. “We’re looking at more involvement,” Owenby said. “We’re trying to support the community that is supporting us.” For more information about the Fair, contact Owenby or visit www.wcmofair.com.
