To The Editor:Time really flies by the older you get. About a year ago, I wrote a small article about naming the “new” park G. Lowell Sprick Memorial Park. (I had written) before wasting time and money on temporary signage, why not name the park “Sprick-Brockfeld Memorial Park.”Both of these distinguished men, Russell Brockfeld and Lowell Sprick, were heroes right here in our own hometown. Brockfeld was our state representative, in the VFW and in the petroleum industry. He also purchased the “old” county courthouse cupola with a personal check.Sprick was a Purple Heart recipient in the Korean War. He and his wife Helen owned Warrenton Cleaners, bought the property where the park is in 1962, and they both kept their estate like a park with lakes and wildlife.I was lucky to know both of the men, in business and as a neighbor. These men were life-long friends, and we should do the right thing and remember them together. “Sprick-Brockfeld Memorial Park” sorta has a ring to it. Heroes like this don’t come around that often, so let’s honor them.Jon RuggieroWarrenton
