Seventy-eight animals living in filthy conditions on a property outside of Wright City were rescued Monday, Aug. 31, by the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force and the Warren County Sheriff's Department.
The rescued animals include 16 dogs, eight cats, 23 rabbits, 24 chickens, three ducks, two mini LaMancha goats, one potbellied pig and one Cockatoo, according to a press release. The animals had been living in their own moldy, accumulated waste for many months and had limited access to food and little to no clean water.
Investigators believe the animals have had little to no veterinary care, according to the release.
The rescued animals are being taken to Humane Society of Missouri facilities to be cared for.
Animal abuse charges are being sought against the animals' owners, the press release stated.
