By Tim SchmidtRecord Managing EditorFifty pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $250,000 was found hidden in the door panels of a vehicle that wrecked on Interstate 70 in Warren County, authorities reported.Last Wednesday’s bust led to the arrest of the driver, identified as 25-year-old Matthew D. Mox, of Brownsville, Pa.Prosecutors charged Mox with felony drug possession with the intent to distribute. He remains held in the Warren County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond. Mox was scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.The large quantity of marijuana was discovered after Mox crashed the car he was driving near the 200-mile marker in Wright City around 2:06 p.m. Sept. 16. According to the preliminary crash report, Mox was driving a 2015 Ford Taurus in the left eastbound lane when the car struck the concrete median wall.A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper responded to the crash and learned the vehicle was a rental and that Mox planned to have it towed to Pennsylvania for $1,000, according to the probable cause statement. The officer also smelled burnt marijuana when checking on the car.The trooper had Warren County deputy Ed McCormick and his K-9, Bronto, respond to a Wright City towing company. Bronto alerted to the presence of a drug in the driver’s door. A search led to the discovery of 37 vacuum-sealed plastic bags containing marijuana hidden in all four doors, according to the probable cause statement. Police also seized numerous yellow envelopes containing an unknown brown liquid and a brown medicinal bottle with an unknown liquid.Prior to be booked in the jail, Mox was transported to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis with minor injuries sustained in the accident.Matthew Mox
