The Wright City Lady Wildcats beat Intensity Home School in four sets to win their fifth match of the season.
Wright City (5-11-1) beat Intensity Home School 3-1 Monday. The Lady Wildcats started the match strong, winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-20. Wright City volleyball coach Christine Goldsmith touted the Lady Wildcats’ communication in the first two sets.
“We were communicating a lot,” Goldsmith said. “We talked about it last week. That was going to be our goal this week was to talk about anything and everything. I think that’s what really helps this team work together is if we talk about every play, every move, every ball. So that’s what I thought set us apart the first two sets.”
Wright City dropped the third set 25-18. After Wright City jumped ahead 5-2 in the set, Intensity Home School went on a 16-5 run to take a 18-10 lead.
“In the third set, I think we were stagnant,” Goldsmith said. “We were not moving our feet. We were kind of just expecting someone else to take the ball and other people not when they should have. I think that’s what put us down in a hole and we couldn’t climb back out of it.”
The Lady Wildcats won the fourth set 25-18 to win the match.
“I think it was a wake up call for them because they were not performing to what they thought they could,” Goldsmith said. “So we stopped and we were like ok, we need to do our talking. We need to move out feet. We need to cover. And I think that helped us with the fourth set.”
The Lady Wildcats are scheduled to host Warrenton at 6 p.m. Thursday.
