Wildcats extend unbeaten streak

The Wright City soccer team won two more games to push their unbeaten streak to seven games.
Wright City (10-2-1) scored three goals in the first half and four goals in the second half in their 7-0 win over Hazelwood East last week. The Wildcats also beat Christian Fellowship Tuesday.
Ricardo Uribe scored three goals to pace the Wright City offensive attack in last week’s win. He scored the last goal of the first half to give Wright City a 3-0 lead. He scored the first two goals of the second half. Austin Kirn and Keagan Loeffler scored first half goals for Wright City. Dylan Hickman and Braxten Loeffler scored in the second half.
“First half, we were up 3-0,” Wright City soccer coach Josh Albregts said. “And then we just kind of took it from there. It was definitely a good game. A good showing. I would have liked to have seen more passing, things of that nature. But obviously we walked away with the win.”
Wright City won the game despite resting a couple regular contributors due to injuries. As a result, they had certain athletes play out of position.
Wright City is set to face the toughest part of their schedule the rest of the season prior to districts. Albregts hopes to see the Wildcats get off to faster starts in their remaining games this season. Albregts said the Wildcats always play strong in the second half but sometimes start slow in the first half.
“If we can get the fast starts, we’re going to be riding high going into districts,” Albregts said. “If we continue to play the way that we are, then we’re going to have issues. Because we’re not going to be able to recover against good teams. So the focus will definitely be on making that first half meaningful to the point where we’re pushing to the point where we’re making it happen. We’re setting the tone.”
Wright City extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 4-2 win over Christian Fellowship Tuesday. Uribe scored two goals and had an assist. Alejandro de La Torre Delgado notched a goal and an assist. Hickman scored a goal for the Wildcats.
Wright City is scheduled to play at Elsberry Friday. They will host Warrenton Monday. Kickoff for both games is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
