Warrenton, Wright City athletes win events

The Warrenton and Wright City track and field teams won a combined 14 events at last week’s Wright City Warm Up Meet. 

Warrenton led the area schools with first place finishes in 10 different events. Returning state qualifier Wyatt Claiborne led the way with multiple first place finishes. He won the 800-meter, 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. Teammate Garrison Allen placed first in the javelin competition. Wright City won three events during the boys competition. Jeremiah Davis placed first in the 100-meter dash. Wright City’s Mason Wendt placed first in the shot put competition. The Wildcats also placed first in the 4x100-meter relay. 

Warrenton’s Colton Brosenne and Elias McPike and Wright City’s Henry Pohl, David Riggs and Isaiah Yoder all recorded individual second place finishes. The Warrenton 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays and the Wright City 4x400-meter relay all recorded second place finishes. Warrenton and Wright City each recorded three third place finishes during the boys competition. Allen, Brosenne and Zachariah Bristol each recorded an individual third place finish. Wright City’s Devin Myers and David Rice both placed third individually in an event. The Wright City 4x200-meter relay also registered a third place finish. 

Of the seven first place finishes recorded by county schools during the girls competition, six came from Warrenton athletes. Avery Shaw placed first in both the discus and shot put competitions. Returning state competitor Madelyn Marschel placed first in the 800-meter run. Morgan Marschel won the 400-meter dash competition. The Lady Warriors won the 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relays. Wright City placed first in the 4x200-meter relay. 

Area athletes placed second in 11 competitions. Warrenton’s Isabelle Morris, Paige Sommer, Shelby Sommer and Shaw each placed second in a competition. The Lady Warrior 4x100-meter relay team also placed second. Wright City’s Lydia Clubb, Samantha Finch, Kali Jensen, Elizabeth Riggs and Miley Sosa all took home second place individually in their various areas of competition. The Lady Wildcats placed second in the 4x400-meter relay. 

Warrenton’s Kiera Daniel, Zoe Klaus and Evangeline Rhama and Wright City’s Bailey Love each took home a third place finish. 

The Warrenton boys and girls track and field teams were scheduled to compete at Ft. Zumwalt East Monday and Washington Tuesday. They are slated to compete at Union April 11. The Wright City boys track and field team was scheduled to compete at the Bowling Green High School Mini Medal Track Meet Wednesday.
