Warren County R-III bond will officially by on the April 2024 ballot

Posted

A bond issue for construction of a new elementary school in the Warren County R-III school district will be on the ballot seeking voter approval in April.

The Warren County R-III Board of Education unanimously voted last week to approve a resolution calling for a special school bond election to be held on April 2. The bond will seek approval for use of $45 million in a no tax rate increase bond issue.

“This is our final step to put something on the ballot,” Warren County R-III Superintendent Dr. Gregg Klinginsmith said. “So we’ve discussed this for months. We’ve finalized our ballot language. We know exactly what we want to do. Now we have to pass a resolution to take to the county clerks to file it.”

With the funds, the district would build a new elementary school on property the district owns north of Interstate 70.

The board in July approved using a no tax increase bond issue to build an elementary school on the property, pending funding availability. If the bond issue is approved, the district’s plan is to move Daniel Boone Elementary from its current site to the new building. The current Daniel Boone Elementary building would be used for early childhood.

The board also unanimously approved a motion for Cochran Engineering to provide the land survey and SCI Engineering to provide the geotechnical test borings for the site the district is proposing to build the elementary school. The total cost of the borings and survey is $38,750.

“We’d just like to do some surveying and boring to make sure we know what we have and what we’re working with,” Klinginsmith said. “There’s not oil or something or a big chunk of limestone that’s the only one in all of Warren County. So we just want to make sure that’s clay like we think it is going to be.”
