Walmart evacuated for bomb threat

Walmart employees and emergency responders evacuated customers from Walmart in Warrenton Tuesday, after an upset customer allegedly made a bomb threat.

Emergency responders at the scene said a disgruntled pharmacy customer made the threat shortly before 2 p.m., and store employees called 911.

“Out of an abundance of caution, (Walmart) chose to take it seriously,” said Warrenton Police Chief Larry Ellard. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to search the areas of the store where the customer had been.

Warrenton Fire Captain Matt Dabbs said first responders believe the threat is unlikely to be substantiated, but took action to ensure the public was safe.

The person who allegedly made the bomb threat left the store before first responders arrived. Law enforcement officers are currently attempting to locate that person.

Warrenton Police, Missouri Highway Patrol, Warrenton Fire, Wright City Fire and Warren County Ambulance agencies were all dispatched to the store.
