The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.  Vernon Charles Dickmann, age 89, died in hospice care surrounded by family in Dallas, TX on Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Vernon was born in Marthasville, MO on June 14, 1932.  He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1953 and enlisted in the US Army the same year.  Vernon served two years in the Army before returning to Marthasville.  He was united in marriage to LaVerne McVey on June 16, 1957.  Vernon worked as an engineer on various aircraft and aerospace projects before starting his own engineering design and drafting consulting firm.  He spent the first part of his retirement in Marthasville, on a property known to his family as the Great Hill.

Mr. Dickmann enjoyed bowling, woodworking, television and radio repair, crossword puzzles, and card games.  He and LaVerne moved to the Dallas area in 2002.  Vernon became an avid golfer and enjoyed taking art classes.  Despite miles of physical distance, Vernon kept up with current events in Marthasville and Warren County and was very proud of his Missouri roots and German heritage.  Over the years, he and LaVerne worked tirelessly to develop an extensive family tree dating back several generations and including thousands of individuals.

Vernon is survived by his wife, LaVerne, their daughters, Beth (Bob) Moore and Amy (Georges) Buatois, and grandchildren Sarah and David Moore and Emily and Katie Buatois.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hedwig (nee Mittler) Dickmann, and his sister Ruth Schumann.

A Memorial Service for Vernon will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at St. Paul UCC, Marthasville.

Memorial Donations are appreciated to the St. Paul UCC Cemetery Fund in honor of Vernon.
