A 16-year-old Wright City woman was among four killed in a serious accident on Highway 79 south of Route C late Saturday night.

The crash occurred at 11:46 p.m. in Lincoln County.

An 18-year-old Wright City man was seriously injured during the crash. He was taken by air evac helicopter to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. No update was available on his condition.

The other victims included two O’Fallon teens and a 23-year-old Elsberry woman.

According to the crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 16-year-old Wright City woman was driving southbound, crossed the center line and struck the car driven by the Elsberry woman.

Names of the teenage victims were not released.

A reporter from Fox 2 News in St. Louis says the Wright City teen was trying to pass the car in front of her.

Both cars ran off the east side of the road.

The four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Responding officers reported the two O’Fallon teens were not wearing seatbelts, and were unable to determine if the two Wright City teens were wearing theirs. The Elsberry woman was wearing her seatbelt, according to the crash report.

According to KSDK, a resident who lives near the crash site said that stretch of Highway 79 where the fatal crash occurred is deadly.

"For the three years I've lived here, 79 is a dangerous road, but it is definitely the most dangerous road at night," Jenna Holland told KSDK.
