The city of Warrenton has announced that storied country band Sawyer Brown will be the main stage performance of the 2022 Fall Festival in downtown Warrenton.
Sawyer Brown has a long history of chart-topping country hits, with some of the best-known being “Some Girls Do,” “Thank God for You,” and “Step That Step.” The band will perform as the finale of a day of free events at Warrenton’s annual community festival, which this year is set for Sept. 24.
“We’re going country this year,” commented city Director of Operations Jon Struckhoff when the band was announced.
Sawyer Brown is the latest in a yearly series of well-known and venerable classic rock and country music acts to be booked for the Fall Festival, which annually draws thousands of people to Warrenton’s Main Street for vendors, family activities, classic cars and music. Sawyer Brown has been touring for more than 30 years, with a stable of popular songs that continue to earn the band name recognition and enthusiasm.
The feature performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. to close out the day of festival activities.
This year’s Fall Festival will have some high expectations for turnout and event offerings compared to previous years. Despite 2021’s event being ultimately successful, there were initial concerns last year over slow festival vendor registrations caused by the lingering shadow of COVID. This year’s festival likely won’t have any such concerns, and Struckhoff said he’s already seeing a marked difference from the vendors who help make the festival what it is.
“This year we’ve got a ton of interest already. It’s going to be a big event, I believe,” Struckhoff said.
Vendors who set up booths at the Fall Festival usually offer a mix of foods, craft items, kids’ activities and small item giveaways.
The 2022 festival will also continue to feature two afternoon events that have become central attractions in-and-of themselves: the Fall Festival Car and Motorcycle Show, and the performance of Butch Wax and the Hollywoods.
The car and motorcycle show is open to any variety of display vehicle. Registration for the show will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with judging in the late afternoon.
Butch Wax, a perennial favorite of festival visitors, will perform their mix of America’s most popular classic rock music from noon to 3 p.m.
Warrenton will also offer its “Kids Corner” area of the festival all afternoon, with games and carnival attractions for children attending the festival with their families.
