Ruiz Mexican restaurant closes after 30 years

A family-owned restaurant that has brought Wright City the joy of Mexican food for more than 30 years announced last week that it is shutting down.

The owners of Ruiz Castillo Mexican Restaurant, Beni and Nibaldo Mora, announced through the restaurant’s Facebook page on Feb. 17 that they are closing their doors permanently, effective immediately. Ruiz Castillo has been a prominent part of the Wright City community since 1990.

“As many of you know, we have always prided ourselves with working hard and providing a service to our friends and family of this city, but we have decided that it’s time for the next chapter in our story,” the Moras said in their announcement. “We can’t begin to express how grateful we are to this community that has supported us so much throughout the years. Too many great memories to count have been had at Ruiz, and we will always cherish your support and friendship. We will miss serving you all!”

For anyone who still wants to support a local business while getting their “taco fix,” the Ruiz owners recommended San Jose Mexican Grocery in Wright City.
