Races emerge on opening day of candidate filing

Tuesday was the first day for candidates to register to appear on the ballot for city, school board and emergency district elections next April.

Among those filing for office on the first day were three newcomers hoping to take leadership positions in the city of Warrenton, as well as one newcomer to a race in Wright City.

Candidates may file to run for local municipal elections until Jan. 19. Elections will be held April 6, 2021.

Candidates should contact the relevant political district to inquire about qualifications for office. Some offices also charge a filing fee to help pay for the cost of the election.

Below are the available elected positions:

City of Warrenton

The office of mayor and three board of aldermen seats will be up for election, each for two-year terms.

On the first day, Mayor Eric Schleuter was the only incumbent to file for re-election. 

A challenger for the mayoral election, Sheryl Cullom, also registered on the first day.

Newcomer Steven Cullom has registered to run for alderman of Ward 2. Josh Poore, who ran for election last year, has filed again to run for alderman of Ward 1.

Incumbent aldermen Gary Auch, Ward 2, and Gary Miller, Ward 3, had not registered on Tuesday.

Current Ward 1 Alderman Cheryl Dyer has previously stated she does not intend to run for re-election.

Candidate registration will be accepted at Warrenton City Hall, 200 W. Booneslick. Candidates must schedule an appointment by calling 636-456-3535.

Warren County R-III School District

Two seats on the board of education are up for election for three-year terms. 

Incumbent John Clinger was the only person to file for election Tuesday. Fellow incumbent Chad Smith has not yet registered.

Candidates may file at the Warren County R-IIl Central Office, located at 385 W. Veteran Memorial Parkway, Warrenton.

Warrenton Fire Protection District

Two board of directors seats will be elected to six-year terms.

Newcomer Stacey Blondin and former appointed board member James Sharp filed to run for office Tuesday.

Incumbents Malissa Booth and Bill Abel have not registered.

Candidates may file at Warrenton Fire Protection District headquarters, 606 Fairgrounds Road, Warrenton.

Warren County Ambulance District

Two board of directors seats, one each from sub-district 2 and sub-district 5.

No candidates filed for the board on the first day.

Candidates may file to run for office at the Warren County Clerk’s Office, 101 Mockingbird Lane, Warrenton.

City of Wright City

Two board of aldermen positions will be elected to two-year terms.

Both incumbents, Kerry Lambright of Ward 1 and Nathan Rohr of Ward 2, registered to run for re-election.

Newcomer Donald Andrews also filed his candidacy to compete against Lambright in Ward 1.

Candidates may file at Wright City Hall, 636 Westwoods Road.

Wright City R-II School District

Two board of education seats with three-year terms are up for election.

Incumbents David Mikus and Erin Williams were the sole candidates to file on the first day.

Candidates can register at the superintendent’s office, 90 Bell Road, Wright City.

City of Marthasville

The office mayor and two board of aldermen seats will each be elected to two-year terms.

Mayor David Lange was the only candidate to register on the first day.

Incumbent aldermen Dan Grafrath, East Ward, and Leo Meyer, West Ward, had not yet registered.

Candidate filing may be done at Marthasville City Hall, 402 E. Main St.

Marthasville Community Ambulance District

Two board of directors seats, one each from sub-district 2 and sub-district 5.

No candidates filed for the board on the first day.

Candidates may file to run for office at the Warren County Clerk’s Office, 101 Mockingbird Lane, Warrenton.

City of Truesdale

The office of mayor and two board of aldermen seats are on the ballot for two-year terms.

Incumbent Aldermen Jerry Cannon and Robert Green registered Tuesday. 

Mayor Chris Watson has not yet filed.

Registration for a candidates is at Truesdale City Hall, 109 Pinckney Street.

Village of Innsbrook

Three seats on the Village Board of Trustees will be elected to two-year terms.

Incumbents Jeff Thomsen and Trish Dunn registered their candidacy on the first day.

Fellow incumbent Cynthia Bowers hadn’t yet registered.

Candidates may file at Village Hall, 1835 Highway F, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
