R-III District pays Wentzville to staff education program

District has been unable to hire needed staff

The Warren County R-III School Board approved an agreement with the Wentzville School District earlier this month to receive assistance with R-III’s Parents as Teachers program.

The agreement creates a partnership with the Wentzville School District to help provide the program’s services to Warren County R-III district students. Parents as Teachers is a home-based early childhood program offering lessons that help families raise children to be healthy, safe, learning early and ready for school.

Warren County R-III Superintendent Dr. Gregg Klinginsmith said the agreement is necessary because the district hasn’t been able to hire a local staff member to help with the Parents as Teachers program.

“We have had some staffing issues this year of not being able to do any parent home visits with kids, and that’s a problem,” Klinginsmith said. “Last time we had this job posted, it was open for 140 days. So we’re really having a hard time finding somebody to take this role.”

Even if the district finds someone in the near future to fill the position, Klinginsmith does not anticipate utilizing that individual much, if at all, this school year. Once the position is filled, the district needs to train the individual.

“That takes a little bit of time,” Klinginsmith said. “I’m just not 100% sure we’ll be able to do that before school’s out.”

The district has spent over $12,000 of its Parents as Teachers allocation from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for the school year. The district has about $10,690 available for the remainder of the current school year. That money will be used to pay for the partnership with Wentzville School District.
