The Warren County Collector and Warren County Assessor are alerting taxpayers that their 2022 personal property taxes may be increased from last year.
Disruptions in the production of new vehicles, caused by computer chip shortages and loss of labor forces to produce parts, has led to the used auto market increasing in demand and value. According to news outlets, used automobile prices have surged anywhere from 20 to 40 percent, depending on the make, model, and availability of certain vehicles, especially trucks.
The Assessor’s Office is mandated by state statute (RsMO 137.115) to use the Oct. 1, 2021, National Automobile Dealers Association value guide to assess the value of vehicles. These values have shown an increase from the prior tax year due to the aforementioned conditions, and tax statements will be affected.
For example, a 2012 Ford F-150 supercab in 2021 had a value of $3,260 and tax amount of $195.84; in 2022, that same vehicle is valued at $4,530 and taxed $270.01. A 2017 GMC Yukon in 2021 was valued at $11,240 and tax amount of $699.21; in 2022, that same vehicle is valued at $13,480 and taxed at $833.25.
Tax bills will be mailed Friday, Nov 4. Citizens are urged to carefully review their bill to verify that the information is correct. If you don’t receive your bill by Thanksgiving, call the Warren County Collector’s Office at 636-456-3330.
Dec. 31, 2022, falls on a Saturday this year, so municipal offices will not be open. Be sure to pay early to avoid having penalties and interest added to your bill. A Dec. 31 postmark will be honored, however you should go to the post office to guarantee your postmark — if placed in your mailbox, you may not be guaranteed the Dec. 31 postmark.
