New voter ID law in effect

Posted

Warren County Clerk and election authority Denise Stotler is reminding voters that a new voting law is in effect for all Missouri voters. Voters that cast a ballot in person at their polling place or during absentee voting will be required to show a non-expired photo ID issued by the state of Missouri or federal government.

Examples include a non-expired Missouri driver license or non-expired Missouri non-driver license, a non-expired U.S. passport, a non-expired military ID (including a veteran’s ID card), or another photo ID issued by the United States or state of Missouri which is either not expired or expired after the date of the most recent general election.

If a registered voter does not have one of these IDs, they can still vote a blue provisional ballot, which will be counted if their signature matches the signatures on their voter registration record.

For voters who cannot make it to the polls on Election Day, absentee voting is available through 5 p.m. on Nov. 7. Eligible voters can go to the Warren County Clerk’s Office located at 101 Mockingbird Lane, Suite 302, Warrenton, to cast an absentee ballot. Voters must bring a valid ID to vote in person.

Voters can also take advantage of a new no-excuse absentee voting period this fall. Beginning Oct. 25 and continuing through 5 p.m. on Nov. 7, all registered Warren County voters can vote in person in the County Clerk’s Office. Regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Extended hours are also offered on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. until noon.

The deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 8 election was Oct. 12. To avoid delays on Election Day, voters should make sure they are registered at their current address.

Voters may contact the Warren County Clerk’s office at 636-456-3331 for information regarding their correct polling place or for other registration or election information.
