NECAC awarded WIC contract; Seeking Warren County board member

The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) has been awarded a contract to provide Women, Infants and Children program services in Warren and St. Charles counties.

NECAC has contracted with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to provide $272,623 of WIC services for fiscal 2022, which began Oct. 1 and runs through Sept. 30, 2022. The agency expects to serve 15,334 clients in the program during year.

WIC is a supplemental USDA food program that provides free nutritious foods and nutrition education to expectant, breast-feeding and postpartum mothers as well as infants and children up to age five. Participants must meet WIC income guidelines and be determined by a health professional to be at nutritional risk.

NECAC also was approved for the eighth straight year as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic and awarded $16,000 for staff support

In Warren County, WIC sessions are held from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays at the NECAC Warren County Service Center at 120 E. Main in Warrenton.

In St. Charles County, WIC is offered from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays at the NECAC St. Charles County Service Center at 3400 Meadow Pointe Drive in O’Fallon.

NECAC seeks nominations for Warren County board member

The not-for-profit North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) is accepting candidate nominations for an open board positions in Warren County with a deadline of Jan. 18.

Qualified residents are being invited to serve the remaining two years of a four-year term through September 2023 as a Low-Income Representative (LIR) on the agency’s 36-member volunteer Board of Directors. Warren County is one of three counties designated as Region IV in the agency’s 12-county service area. Montgomery and St. Charles are the other two.

LIR candidates must live in Warren County and be nominated by a low-income resident of the county or a service organization or group that serves the interest and needs of the low-income in the county. LIR candidates need not be low-income persons themselves.

The NECAC Board is a tri-partite membership represented by three members from each county in the service area; one LIR, one Civic Interest Representative (CIR) and one Public Elected Official (PEO).

The nomination period will be open for 30 days, beginning on Dec. 18 and ending on Jan. 18. The election will be held on Jan. 25, 2022, by the NECAC Board of Directors, with installation and term of office beginning on March 22, 2022.

Nominations must be made on authorized forms that are available at the NECAC Warren County Service Center, 120 E. Main in Warrenton. A biographical questionnaire provided by NECAC must be completed or a personal resume will be required from all candidates.

The NECAC Board meets on the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m. during the months of January, March, May, July, September, October and November at the agency’s Central Administration Executive Office Building in Bowling Green. A complimentary meal is provided to board members before each meeting and a travel reimbursement of 51 cents per mile to and from each meeting is allowed. Meetings usually are completed by 9 p.m.

The NECAC PEO Board Member from Warren County is former county commissioner Fred Vahle of Warrenton, who was appointed by the county commission and also serves as board vice-chairman. The CIR member is Lisa Key of Wright City, who was appointed by Emmaus Homes,

NECAC administers more than 60 programs through contracts and grants with federal, state and local governments, private businesses and other not-for profit organizations to operate and administer self-sufficiency service programs for the low-income, elderly, youth, disabled and disadvantaged population. The agency has an annual budget of more than $29 million, with 100 full-time and more than 80 part-time employees.
