The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) this month released its five year transportation improvement plan, detailing highway projects across the state. That includes over $17 million for projects in Warren County, most of which are planned for the 2022-2023 year.
Around 15 road and bridge projects are planned in Warren County by 2026, among more than 1,400 total projects planned across the state costing $5.5 billion over five years.
“The STIP (Statewide Transportation Improvment Program) is our commitment to Missourians of the projects that will be developed and delivered over the next five years,” MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna said in a press release. “This STIP represents the investment the (State Highway)Commission made several years ago to focus on asset management including more funding available for minor and low volume roads. Over the next three years, 50 percent of all state and low volume minor roads and bridges will be worked on.”
Many residents of southern Warren County will be most interested in plans for Highway O, which has been undergoing temporary rock and asphalt repairs for severe pavement deterioration since winter. MoDOT has $757,000 budgeted for resurfacing the road, starting in the fall of 2022.
Projects coming up in the next year include:
The largest projects planned for future years include resurfacing projects on Highway 47 across the length of Warren County, and the eventual rehabilitation of the I-70 overpass bridge at Pendleton.
MoDOT has resurfacing projects on Highway 47 planned in two parts, both of which are scheduled for the 2022-2023 budget year. About $1.5 million is budgeted for paving on the highway from Hawk Point to Warrenton, while $4 million is being planned to repave from Warrenton south to the Missouri River bridge.
The Pendleton bridge project is designated as “rehabilitation and reconstruction” in MoDOT’s five-year plan. Engineering for the project will span three years, costing $354,000 just to develop the plans. Actual work is slated to begin in 2025, with a total project cost of $2.9 million.
Various other road projects are scheduled in Warren County in the 2022-2023 year. Most of them involve resurfacing or pavement repairs along lengthy sections of rural state highways, including Highways AA, B, H, OO, and U.
MoDOT also has $905,000 earmarked to assist with sidewalk improvements along state roadways in Warrenton and Wright City in 2022, along with $620,000 to help pay for land acquisition and clearing around the Washington Regional Airport in 2024.
